The UN Security Council’s approval of the US resolution for Gaza marks a pivotal moment in the quest for peace and stability in the region.
The resolution, backed by overwhelming support from Arab and other Muslim nations, authorizes an international stabilization force to provide security in Gaza.
It also establishes a transitional authority to guide the region toward stability.
This unified global commitment offers hope for rebuilding Gaza and improving the lives of its people.
Hamas’s rejection of the resolution poses significant challenges. It raises concerns about both the group's commitment to the future of peace efforts in the region.
Worldwide support
The resolution, passed with a 13-0 vote, outlines a 20-point peace plan aimed at restoring stability in Gaza.
Partners such as Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia played a critical role in supporting the resolution, issuing a joint statement urging its swift adoption.
Their backing is seen as essential for the success of the stabilization force, which will oversee borders, provide security, and work toward demilitarizing the territory.
The plan also establishes a transitional authority with a mandate lasting until the end of 2027.
The Palestinian Authority also issued a statement welcoming the resolution and said it is ready to take part in its implementation.
For a strip devastated by two years of war, the resolution represents a chance to rebuild and move toward lasting peace.
Hamas rejection
Despite widespread support, Hamas has rejected the resolution, arguing that it fails to address the political and humanitarian demands of the Palestinian people.
"The resolution imposes an international guardianship mechanism on the Gaza Strip, which our people and their factions reject."
Hamas said in its statement, issued after the adoption of the resolution.
This opposition underscores the challenges ahead for implementing the plan and achieving lasting stability in Gaza.
International leaders have praised the resolution as a significant step toward peace.
Furthermore, US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz emphasized its potential to create a stable and prosperous Gaza while ensuring regional security.
Similarly, Algeria’s UN Ambassador Amar Bendjama described the resolution as a cornerstone for genuine peace in the Middle East.
However, much of its success depends on the ability of the international community to overcome the obstacles posed by Hamas’s opposition.
As the resolution moves forward, the international community embarks on the task of ensuring its implementation.
As for the people of Gaza, peace remains the only path to rebuilding their lives and securing a better future.
