Iran's ambassador defies Lebanon: A blatant breach of diplomatic norms
By refusing to recall its ambassador, Iran has trampled Lebanese sovereignty and exposed Hizbullah's true role as a puppet for Tehran.

When a government orders a foreign diplomat to leave, that diplomat departs, under the most fundamental rules of international diplomacy.
Yet when Lebanon declared Iran's ambassador, Mohammad Reza Sheibani, persona non grata and set a March 29, 2026, departure deadline, Tehran refused to comply.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed that the ambassador would continue his mission in Beirut and would remain present despite Lebanon's directive.
This is not a miscommunication but a deliberate act of defiance that undermines Lebanon's sovereignty and exposes Iran's true grip on the country.
Lebanon's foreign ministry said that the envoy made statements that directly interfered in domestic affairs, actions deemed incompatible with diplomatic norms.
Iran responded by ignoring the expulsion order entirely and applying counterpressure to challenge Beirut's authority and resist compliance with the decision.
According to a Lebanese diplomatic official, Iran exerted extreme pressure on the government and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to reverse the decision.
The reason Tehran feels entitled to behave this way is Hizbullah, which serves as Iran's primary armed and political lever inside Lebanon.
In this view, Hizbullah is not an independent Lebanese movement but rather Iran's armed proxy operating under strategic and operational direction from Tehran.
The Lebanese people have made their position clear, expressing a strong desire for change and greater national stability.
Iran's refusal to honor Lebanon's diplomatic decision represents more than a symbolic insult and signals deeper political interference.
It serves as a reminder that Lebanon's path to peace depends on reclaiming its sovereignty from foreign‑backed militias.
As public calls grow for a stable and independent Lebanon, Tehran's actions strengthen demands for a nation governed by Lebanese interests rather than Iranian ambitions.
