Iran's ambassador defies Lebanon: A blatant breach of diplomatic norms

By refusing to recall its ambassador, Iran has trampled Lebanese sovereignty and exposed Hizbullah's true role as a puppet for Tehran.

When a government orders a foreign diplomat to leave, that diplomat departs, under the most fundamental rules of international diplomacy.

Yet when Lebanon declared Iran's ambassador, Mohammad Reza Sheibani, persona non grata and set a March 29, 2026, departure deadline, Tehran refused to comply.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed that the ambassador would continue his mission in Beirut and would remain present despite Lebanon's directive.

This is not a miscommunication but a deliberate act of defiance that undermines Lebanon's sovereignty and exposes Iran's true grip on the country.

Lebanon's foreign ministry said that the envoy made statements that directly interfered in domestic affairs, actions deemed incompatible with diplomatic norms.

Iran responded by ignoring the expulsion order entirely and applying counterpressure to challenge Beirut's authority and resist compliance with the decision.

According to a Lebanese diplomatic official, Iran exerted extreme pressure on the government and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to reverse the decision.

The reason Tehran feels entitled to behave this way is Hizbullah, which serves as Iran's primary armed and political lever inside Lebanon.

In this view, Hizbullah is not an independent Lebanese movement but rather Iran's armed proxy operating under strategic and operational direction from Tehran.

The Lebanese people have made their position clear, expressing a strong desire for change and greater national stability.

Iran's refusal to honor Lebanon's diplomatic decision represents more than a symbolic insult and signals deeper political interference.

It serves as a reminder that Lebanon's path to peace depends on reclaiming its sovereignty from foreign‑backed militias.

As public calls grow for a stable and independent Lebanon, Tehran's actions strengthen demands for a nation governed by Lebanese interests rather than Iranian ambitions.

A terrorist party that brought destruction and killing upon the country.

Just as they are trying to act tough with the Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon, there are a million other ambassadors in Lebanon who support Israel, such as the Saudi and American ambassadors. Furthermore, where did you get the notion that the Party belongs to Iran? If they were truly Iranian, go and speak to them; see whether they speak Persian or Lebanese Arabic. And even if they were Iranian, so what? They are defending your honour, you people who have no honour, and the dignity of this country, after Joseph Aoun and Salam ruined it. Finally, the Iranian Ambassador needs no one to intercede on his behalf, for he possesses far more pride and dignity than any of you.

It is truly laughable—and utterly humiliating! So, the mere presence of an ambassador has become a thorn in your eyes, yet Israel’s occupation of our lands, America’s control over your decisions, and your abject subservience to both are deemed perfectly normal? May such a state perish—were it not for its proud people, who remain steadfast in their commitment to the Resistance. We answer your call, O Nasrallah! And—never shall we accept humiliation—you who possess neither sovereignty, nor freedom, nor independence!

We pray to Allah that this phase passes safely,
and that it serves as a lesson in how to manage the affairs of the nation.

May Allah's curse be upon Iran, the Persians, those who love them, those who glorify them, and those who support them. Amen, O Lord of the Worlds!

I am not opposed to the Iranian ambassador; rather, I am opposed to external interference in our internal affairs. I am a son of the mountains, and our Shiite brethren live among us in safety. That is my answer.
