Marking a new unprecedented shift in its diplomatic trajectory, Lebanon is severing the long-standing foreign policy alignment once dictated by Hizbullah and Iranian influence.
Beirut’s official condemnation of the Houthi drone strike on the Taiba electricity station in Medina, Saudi Arabia, serves as a clear diplomatic statement.
It signals a robust return to regional consensus, strengthening the collective front against the armed factions destabilizing the Middle East.
Lebanon shifts toward regional consensus
The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen confirmed that Houthi forces launched a drone strike against the Medina electricity distribution station, on September 29.
This violent act successfully rendered a vital electrical transformer completely out of operational service.
On October 2, Lebanon's Foreign Ministry issued a scathing rebuke regarding this deliberate targeting of essential civilian infrastructure.
Officials described the assault as a flagrant violation of international law, humanitarian principles, and regional peace and stability.
The Ministry emphasized that this attack directly infringes upon Saudi sovereignty and poses a severe threat to regional security.
Lebanon declared unwavering solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against all threats to its national security interests.
Reclaiming national sovereignty and stature
Lebanese Member of Parliament Ashraf Rifi hailed this pivotal stance as a clear restoration of Lebanon's sovereign dignity.
"This move signals Lebanon's return to the Arab fold, distancing the country from the malign influence of external actors," he told Al-Fassel.
Lebanon’s stance now confirms the nation's liberation from the suffocating grip of Hizbullah and their ruthless Iranian operational masters.
"Lebanon is asserting its sovereignty, decisively pivoting from Iranian influence. This transformation is driven by the courageous leadership of Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji, whose ministry has firmly restored Lebanon's diplomatic standing and authority," Rifi noted.
He also stressed the attack on Medina was a heinous violation of religious principles and the sanctity of holy sites.
United front against Iranian proxies
Lebanese state institutions are now aligning themselves squarely with the Arab consensus against belligerent Iran-backed armed groups.
Political analyst Marwan al-Amin emphasized that rejecting these terrorist assaults is a vital step for Lebanon’s own recovery.
"Lebanon must also disarm Hizbullah to fully solidify this essential, unified Arab consensus against regional aggression," al-Amin said.
By joining international organizations in condemning the Taiba electricity station attack, Lebanon rejects the shameful targeting of civilian infrastructure and Islamic holy sites.
Al-Amin said Minister Rajji’s diplomatic approach safeguards Lebanon’s sovereignty, advances national interests, and strengthens a unified regional diplomatic front.
The Foreign Ministry unified posture sends a potent message regarding Lebanon's firm opposition to the continued aggression of Iranian-backed proxies.
