Syrian security forces arrested a prominent "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) leader during a targeted raid near Manbej in Aleppo province.

This successful operation highlights the new Syrian leadership's determination to fulfill its pledges regarding tracking down remaining terrorist group members.

On August 18, the Ministry of Interior announced the successful capture of Hamza Abdullah Muhammed, known as Abu Jihad al-Muhajir.

The operation succeeded through close cooperation between the General Intelligence Directorate and Internal Security Forces, assisted by key international partners.

Officials described al-Muhajir as the military commander for "Wilayat al-Sham," having previously served as the group's top commander in Idlib.

Capturing high-value ISIS terror leader

Syrian journalist Mohammed al-Abdullah told Al-Fassel that holding these high-ranking positions made al-Muhajir an incredibly valuable target for authorities.

"His arrest will unlock a wealth of information regarding the remaining jihadist and terrorist networks in Syria and their locations," he stated.

Al-Abdullah noted that this intelligence reveals critical communication channels, logistical supply lines, and even future plans for dangerous terrorist operations.

This insight provides the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign with exactly what it needs to permanently eliminate the persistent terrorist threat across Syria.

The operation highlights the Ministry of Interior's efforts to comprehensively rebuild security agencies and foster vital inter-agency cooperation.

Most current operations now involve forces from multiple bodies, such as General Intelligence, Internal Security, and General Security forces.

"This is a major achievement in itself, considering the extremely tight timeframe," al-Abdullah noted regarding the rapid rebuilding of agencies.

He added that regional partners, led by the United States, provided essential advice and intelligence during surveillance and tactical execution phases.

These technical capabilities are crucial as Syria works to stabilize itself after a decade of severe conflict and instability.

Public vigilance strengthens security operations

Strong public support for the government and presidency significantly facilitates the movement and operational effectiveness of these dedicated security forces.

It ensures a steady flow of reliable information from ordinary citizens reporting suspicious activity within their own local neighborhoods.

"Citizen support creates a vast information base that can be utilized either immediately and directly, or through data analysis," al-Abdullah said.

Authorities use this data to identify emerging movement patterns among ISIS operatives attempting to hide across the Syrian countryside.

These combined efforts allow security teams to monitor suspicious ground activity and enable rapid action to thwart potential terrorist attacks.

By drying up safe havens and dismantling networks, the Syrian government is demonstrably strengthening national security and restoring long-term stability.
