Lebanese Kataeb Party president and Member of Parliament Samy Gemayel recently argued that Lebanon faces a critical, historic opportunity to build a truly sovereign state.
In a post on X on October 5, he urged the government to transition decisively from decisions to execution.
Gemayel insisted the Lebanese state must clearly declare that "the command is mine" to prioritize its own suffering citizens.
He explicitly called for an end to Iranian tutelage, noting Lebanon has been exploited as a proxy battlefield for others.
Reclaiming absolute state authority now
The state faces a binary choice: remain hostage to Iranian hegemony or assume responsibility to liberate Lebanon from foreign influence.
This effort includes shielding Lebanese Shia from the dominance currently practiced over them in the name of Hizbullah and the Iranian regime.
Gemayel views the total disarmament of Hizbullah, with its arsenal surrendered to the army, as the essential foundation for freedom.
He argued that political dialogues or half-measures are no longer viable strategies to address the structural problems plaguing the country.
Political analyst Asaad Bechara described these remarks as accurate and essential for spurring the state to shoulder its responsibilities.
"A prolonged stagnation serves no one, given the volatile region where significant events are consistently anticipated today," Bechara told Al-Fassel.
"Gemayel’s call to end Iranian tutelage is precise, emphasizing the historic opportunity to make the right decision," he added.
This demand reflects the majority of Lebanese who believe the state must take a firm stand against Hizbullah's weapons and decisively disarm the group.
The Lebanese population supports asserting absolute authority over the entire territory to prevent further foreign entanglements in local affairs.
Prioritizing stability and economic future
After enduring fifty years of recurring conflict, Gemayel envisions a future where Lebanon directs attention toward investment and stability.
Analysts describe his goal as a move beyond past wars to ensure the next generation lives with dignity and security.
Gemayel emphasizes that the era of passing Lebanon’s heavy problems down to children must end through bold, immediate state action.
His rhetoric reflects a broader political movement within Lebanon to reassert state authority during this critical and dangerous transitional phase.
Gemayel’s vision suggests that by reclaiming the state's monopoly on weapons and policy, Lebanon can regain its regional standing.
Analysts warn that missing this current window of opportunity may result in a future that remains trapped in the cycle of conflict.
Ultimately, this historic moment provides the government with a unique chance to strengthen the state authority, enhancing Lebanon's stability and serving all citizens.
